Why is this hard to memorize?

Metallurgy questions in NEET and JEE always start with knowing which ore belongs to which metal. Bauxite for Aluminium, Haematite for Iron, Galena for Lead, Cinnabar for Mercury — these associations must be automatic. The NCERT chapter on metallurgy is dense with ore names, and exams test both the ore name and its chemical formula. The challenge is that many ore names sound exotic (Calamine, Siderite, Cassiterite) and don't obviously connect to their metals. A mnemonic that links metal → ore → formula creates a triple association that survives exam pressure.

"Al = Beautiful Boxes (Bauxite), Fe = He Has (Haematite), Cu = Copy Malachite, Zn = Zeal for Calamine, Pb = Please Galena, Hg = Highly Cinnabar"

Each metal gets a phrase starting with a similar sound to its ore: Al=Bauxite(Beautiful Boxes), Fe=Haematite(He Has), Cu=Malachite(Copy Mala), Zn=Calamine(Zeal Cala), Pb=Galena(Please Gale), Hg=Cinnabar(Highly Cinna).

The Ore Formula Pairs

Group ores by formula type: oxides (Bauxite, Haematite, Cuprite), sulphides (Galena, Cinnabar, Zinc blende), carbonates (Calamine, Siderite, Malachite). Patterns reduce memory load.

What is the difference between Magnetite and Haematite?

Both are iron ores. Haematite (Fe₂O₃) is the most common ore, has Fe in +3 state, and is reddish-brown. Magnetite (Fe₃O₄ = FeO·Fe₂O₃) has Fe in both +2 and +3 states, is black, and is naturally magnetic — the richest iron ore by Fe content (72.4% Fe vs 70% in Haematite).
